BOWSTRINGS

Our double-loop bowstrings are £3.70 each, and double-loop means that there is a loop at each end, so you cannot change the length. We have got about forty different lengths, so when you order tell us the length when it is fully stretched out, otherwise you will get the wrong one.

Longbow strings have a laid-in loop at the top and a bowyer's knot (timber hitch) at the bottom, so you can adjust the length somewhat by moving the knot. Not a lot, because you don't want to get the centre serving in the wrong place. We stock these in 6'0", 6'6", and 7'0", but remember that about 6" is lost in the knot. Special lengths made to order. Dacron B50 are £6.50 each. When ordering, please tell us the weight of your bow as well as the length of string you want.

By "weight", we mean how strong the bow is to pull back.

If you are buying a bow just for fun on your own ground you will probably never need a spare string, but when you start going to competitions you should take a spare one with you, already shot in and with a nocking-point fitted, ready to shoot. Remember these wise words, "Confucius he say, man with only one string which break, tend to come bottom".
