GYS ENGLISH LONGBOWS | ||
![]() | Longbows are the bows which were used by Robin Hood and by the archers in the many battles of the Middle Ages. Our GYS Longbows are not foreign imports, they are made by an English bowyer who is a member of the Craft Guild of Bowyers and Fletchers. In those times bows were made from Yew, Ash, or Elm, and ours are made from one piece of Ash. Hickory comes from the USA and began to be used in laminated bows in the 1850s. Our Longbows are full-compass, which means that they bend throughout their length, which is what the medieval bows did. We supply Longbows in various lengths and draw-weights according to the height and strength of the archer, so we need to know these details about you. Phone us if you're not sure about this. They are intended for people wanting a first longbow without having to spend too much to start with. And why do we call them GYS bows? It stands for "Getting You Started", that's why, and it's easy to remember! £89.00. (The colour of the handle may vary according to the colour the bowyer has in stock at the time) |

| SOME ADVICE |
If you are new to longbow shooting, don't go for an expensive bow, get your feet wet first. If you go to battles or field-shooting you will get your feet wet anyway, but don't splash out (sorry) on the most expensive bow when something cheaper will do. Buy a fairly weak one that will build your muscles up over your first year, and then go for a much better model later on. You will then be sure of your draw-length and bow weight, and you will buy a bow that is just right for you, and which will last you for many years. |
Postage and packing on longbows is £11.50 |
