ALL of our bows are sent out with a string which is fitted with a nocking-point, and instructions on how to put the string on.
FIBREGLASS BOWS

The Indian bows are made from one piece of fibreglass, and are slightly re-curved, which gives more speed to the arrow. The colour of these bows varies from one delivery to the next.

Indian Bow
INDIAN 60" 25-30lb. Suitable for late teens to adult. £35.50
INDIAN 50" Similar design, but only 20 lb for kids about 9 years up to early teens. £24.95
INDIAN 40" From very young to about eight years. £17.95
These suggested ages are for average sized children; if you have one of the modern giants, then go to the next one up. All of our bows come with a bowstring. By the way, the "Indian" bows are made in the USA, it's just a trade name.
TAKE-DOWN RECURVE BOW

This bow has many different trade names, but the makers call it the TD0-1. It takes down into three separate pieces, two limbs and a handle, which makes it easy to carry about, and it is an ideal first bow for both field and target archery. We stock it in four lengths, 64" for people up to about 5'6" tall, 66" for people up to about 5'9", 68" for up to 6'0", and 70" for over this. These are rough guesses, but experience over many years tells us this won't be far out. You must tell us which hand you want to hold the bow in. You may need a bow-stringer to put one of these together. Special low price £59.50. We also stock two versions for children, a 62" for nine to twelve years, and the 64" from thirteen to sixteen years.

These bows come with a string with fitted nocking-point, and an arrow-rest.

GYS ENGLISH LONGBOWS

These are the bows which were used by Robin Hood and by the archers in the Hundred Years War, They take longer to become accurate than with modern bows, but more and more archers are changing to them because they are fun to shoot, and you know that you are shooting the way it used to be done. Our GYS longbows are made from Ash, and are self-nocked. They are full-compass, which means that they bend throughout their length, which is what the medieval bows did. We supply longbows in various lengths and draw-weight according to the height of the archer and their strength, so we need to know these details about you. Phone us if you're not sure about this. They are intended for people wanting a first longbow for field archery or re-enactment, or for shooting just for fun on their own ground but not wanting to spend too much to start with. We can supply them in draw-weights from 25 lb to 55lb, and up to 30" for really tall people.

And why do we call them GYS bows? It stands for "Getting You Started", that's why, and it's easy to remember!" £79.00 (The colours of the handle may vary).

"AGINCOURT" ENGLISH LONGBOWS

Many of the archers who bought a GYS bow a year or so ago now want to upgrade to something stronger and faster, so our bowyer is now making this new more advanced version. If you feel you are up to it, you don't have to have a GYS bow first! It is a laminated bow, with an Ash belly and an American Hickory back. It has hand-carved nocks, and you can choose to have a leather handle, or plain wood with a bowyer's mark, which is more authentic for a medieval bow. Like the GYS bows, these are full-compass. The archers of Agincourt would recognise these as almost the same as theirs, except that they would be pulling over 100 lbs! These bows can be made in higher weights than the GYS, so phone us with your wants. Each bow comes with a bastard (extra) nock at the top, and a simple bowstringer. Agincourt bows are made for each individual customer, so it takes about three weeks to get one made for you to your exact specification.. £175.00

If you want to get the feel of what it was like to be an archer in those far-off days, get yourself a copy of "The White Company" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

With each bow we send out we enclose a nicely printed copy of the poem "The Ballad of the Bowmen" from the above-mentioned book, for you to frame and hang on your wall.

SOME ADVICE

If you are new to longbow shooting, don't go for an expensive bow, get your feet wet first. If you go to battles or field-shooting you will get your feet wet anyway, but don't splash out (sorry) on the most expensive bow when something cheaper will do. Buy a fairly weak one that will build your muscles up over your first year, and then go for a much better model later on. You will then be sure of your draw-length and bow weight, and you will buy a bow that is just right for you, and which will last you for many years.

Postage and packing on longbows is £11.50
